Sophos XG – WebCat database upgrade failed [RESOLVED]

You might get a system e-mail that says “WebCat database upgrade failed” this usually means that you have configured your Sophos XG to pull a list of IP’s or URL’s from a web feed / text file.

You can see which URL’s or IP’s have not updated correctly.

  • SSH to XG device
  • Navigate to /log/nSXLd
  • Open the txt file in here it will show the URLs and IP’s that have failed to upload – see the example list shown below

For example to open the file you can type cat filename.txt or to look what files are in this directory type ls

From the example above we can see some IP’s are incorrect, they are missing parts, we can also see some URL’s have spaces in them, or no domain name associated.

Once you look at the log file, you can then go back to your imported lists and make any corrections.
