What is DeepSeek?

It’s been all over the news recently – so you may be one of the many people who are asking the question “What is DeepSeek ?” well let us explain.

Start-up company DeepSeek was founded in 2023 in Hangzhou, China, by hedge fund founder Liang Wenfeng, it was trained on data up to October 2023.

It performs at its best in English because this is the language of most of its training data, but it can understand many languages.

There is one key point to mention and that is DeepSeek censors itself when it comes to questions about subjects banned in China.

If you have used ChatGPT before then you may notice the layout and how it works is very similar.

It has a focus on advancing artificial general intelligence (AGI). AGI refers to highly autonomous systems that possess the ability to outperform humans at most economically valuable work. Unlike narrow AI, which is designed for specific tasks, AGI aims to achieve human-like cognitive abilities across a wide range of domains.

DeepSeek’s mission is to push the boundaries of AI research and development, striving to create intelligent systems that can learn, reason, and adapt in ways similar to human intelligence. The company is likely involved in cutting-edge research areas such as machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and robotics, all of which are critical components in the pursuit of AGI.

By focusing on AGI, DeepSeek aims to contribute to the development of technologies that can solve complex problems, drive innovation, and potentially transform various industries, including healthcare, finance, transportation, and more. The company’s work is part of a broader global effort to achieve breakthroughs in AI that could have profound implications for society and the economy.

For its basic use, asking it questions and getting an answer it is very similar to ChatGPT. See the below image which shows us asking a basic question and getting a response.
