Tesla robotaxi unveiled by Elon Musk
Tesla has unveiled its long-anticipated robotaxi, called the Cybercab, at a highly staged event at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California.
The robotaxi is an autonomous vehicle specifically designed without a steering wheel or pedals, requiring regulatory approval before it can enter production. Its futuristic design features doors that open upward like butterfly wings and a compact cabin that seats only two passengers. Instead of traditional controls, the vehicle charges wirelessly through inductive technology, eliminating the need for a plug.
According to Elon Musk the Robotaxi will not even feature a charging port for its electric batteries, Instead, the Robotaxi will drive over an inductive charging station and receive power wirelessly – allowing it to charge without human assistance.
Tesla intends to roll out fully autonomous driving in Texas and California next year, with the Cybercab expected to enter production by 2026, though it could be delayed until 2027.
Tesla’s cutting-edge Robotaxi will be designed without a steering wheel, pedals, or rear window. Passengers will simply relax as the car drives itself.
The all-electric vehicle will cost less than $30,000 (£23,000) and only 20 cents (15p) per mile to run.
