New Year Honours List 2020 – Addresses Published Online In Error
Over 1000 celebrities, government employees and politicians who have received honours had their home and work addresses posted on a government website in error.
It is thought the document went online at 10.30pm on Friday and was taken down in the early hours of Saturday., but by that point many people had seen the error, and were able to view the addresses of those on the honors list.
Former head of the civil service Lord Kerslake told the BBC the government could face legal action from those whose addresses were published, as well as from the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
A Cabinet Office spokesperson said:
A version of the New Year Honours 2020 list was published in error which contained recipients’ addresses.
The information was removed as soon as possible. We apologise to all those affected and are looking into how this happened.
We have reported the matter to the ICO and are contacting all those affected directly.
We are contacting affected individuals in order to provide advice and guidance should they have any security concerns, as well as apologise for the error.
