BBC to close iPlayer for Radio app this month

The BBC will close iPlayer for Radio, this will start on September 16th, allowing listeners to move over to BBC Sounds by the end of September.

James Purnell, Director, Radio & Education says: “We’ve been improving Sounds all the time, and the time has come to switch off iPlayer Radio so the BBC only has one audio app.

The BBC will start this on Monday 16 September and will be using a staggered approach. This means that over a two week period or so, users will get a message from them when they open the old app to say that they are closing it, and depending on their device, they’ll be guided to the right place to find BBC Sounds to continue listening to BBC Radio.
