Protect Yourself Against Romance Scams
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) over in the USA has released a short video to help users spot and defend against romance scams. In this type of fraud, cyber criminals gain the confidence of their victims and trick them into sending money.
The video includes stories that romance scammers tell to online daters to get them to send money and offers tips for avoiding these scams. Use caution when online dating, and never send money or gifts to someone you have not met in person.
People reported losing $143 million in romance schemes last year, more than any other type of fraud reported to the Federal Trade Commission. But there are steps you can take – and then tell someone about. So watch the video, learn more, and pass it on.
