PHP.net PHP php_jpg_get16 Method Heap Buffer Overflow Vulnerability [CVE-2019-11040]

A vulnerability in PHP could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to access sensitive information or cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on a targeted system.

The vulnerability exists in the php_jpg_get16 method, as defined in the ext/exif/exif.c source code file of the affected software, and is due to improper memory operations that are performed by PHP. The vulnerability manifests as a heap buffer overflow memory error condition. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending requests that submit malicious input to the system. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to access sensitive information or cause a DoS condition on the system. 

PHP.net has confirmed the vulnerability and released software updates.
