CVE Number – CVE-2016-4802
A vulnerability in cURL and libcurl could allow a local attacker to conduct a dynamic link library (DLL) hijacking attack on a targeted system.The vulnerability exists because the affected software does not properly load Windows system DLLs when the affected software is built with Security Support Provider Interface (SSPI) or when telnet is used. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by planting a malicious DLL in a current user directory on the targeted system. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to conduct a DLL hijacking attack, which could be used to compromise the system completely.The cURL Project has confirmed the vulnerability and released software updates.
- To exploit this vulnerability, the attacker must have user-level access to the targeted system. This access requirement could reduce the likelihood of a successful exploit.
