Huawei Chairman Says They Are Ready To Sign ‘no-spy’ Deal With UK

Huawei is willing to sign a “no-spy” agreement with countries including Britain, the firm’s chairman said on Tuesday.

Liang Hua visited the UK as it weighs the risks of allowing the company to help develop its 5G infrastructure.

“We are willing to sign no-spy agreements with governments, including the UK government, to commit ourselves to making our equipment meet the no-spy, no-backdoors standard,” Huawei chairman Liang Hua told reporters in London via an interpreter.

Huawei has also said it is independent from the Chinese government, but some countries have blocked it from their 5G networks on national security grounds.

In September 2012, Huawei publicly committed to spending £1.3 billion in the UK between 2013 and 2017. In fact it exceeded this commitment by almost £900 million, spending £2.2 billion on investment and procurement over the five-year period.
