Pallets Jinja str.format Sandbox Escape Vulnerability [CVE-2016-10745]

A vulnerability in Pallets Jinja could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to bypass security restrictions on a targeted system.

The vulnerability is due to the way string formatting works in Python, which could allow the str.formatmethod to be used to escape the sandbox on a targeted system. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a request that submits malicious input to the targeted system. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to bypass security restrictions and escape the sandbox environment, and then conduct further attacks.Pallets has confirmed the vulnerability and released software updates.
