Libsndfile wav_write_header Out-of-Bounds Read Denial of Service Vulnerability [CVE-2019-3832]

CVE Number = CVE-2019-3832

A vulnerability in libsndfile could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on a targeted system.

The vulnerability exists in the wav_write_header function, as defined in the src/wav.c source code file of the affected software, and is due to a heap-based out-of-bounds read memory operation error that could occur when libsndfile handles audio files. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by persuading a user to access a link or file that submits malicious input to the affected software. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the affected software to terminate abnormally, resulting in a DoS condition.

Proof-of-concept (PoC) code that demonstrates an exploit of this vulnerability is publicly available.

Libsndfile has confirmed the vulnerability and released software updates.
