X.Org X Server Improper Permissions Check Privilege Escalation Vulnerability [CVE-2018-14665]

A vulnerability in X.Org X Server could allow a local attacker to gain elevated privileges on a targeted system.
The vulnerability is due to an incorrect permissions check for the -modulepath and -logfile options of the affected system. A local attacker with physical access could exploit this vulnerability by executing commands with the -modulepath or -logfile options on a targeted system that is running with elevated privileges. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to gain escalated privileges or run arbitrary code on a targeted system.
X.Org has confirmed the vulnerability and released a software patch.
