VMware SVGA Device Out-of-Bounds Read Vulnerability [CVE-2018-6974]

A vulnerability in the Super Video Graphics Array (SVGA) device of multiple VMware products could allow a local attacker on a guest system to execute arbitrary code on a targeted host system.
The vulnerability is due to an out-of-bounds read condition in the SVGA device that is used by the affected software. An attacker on a guest system could exploit this vulnerability by sending a request that submits malicious input to the targeted host system. A successful exploit could trigger an out-of-bounds read condition that the attacker could use to execute arbitrary code on the host system.
VMware has confirmed the vulnerability and released software updates.
