Linux Kernel xenvif_set_hash_mapping Function Out-of-Bounds Access Vulnerability [CVE-2018-15471]

A vulnerability in the Linux Kernel could allow a local attacker to access sensitive information, escalate privileges, or cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on a targeted system.

The vulnerability is due to improper input validation by the xenvif_set_hash_mapping function, as defined in the drivers/net/xen-netback/hash.c source code file of the affected software. A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a malicious mapping request. A successful exploit could cause an out-of-bounds memory access condition, which could allow the attacker to access sensitive information, escalate privileges, or cause a DoS condition on the targeted system.

Kernel.org confirmed the vulnerability and released software updates.
