Linux Kernel cdrom_ioctl_select_disc Information Disclosure Vulnerability [CVE-2018-18710]

A vulnerability in the cdrom_ioctl_select_disc function of the Linux Kernel could allow a local attacker to access sensitive information on a targeted system.
The vulnerability exists in the cdrom_ioctl_select_disc function, as defined in the drivers/cdrom/cdrom.c source code file of the affected software, and is due to insufficient bounds checking when the software processes user-supplied input. An attacker could exploit the vulnerability by accessing the system and executing an application that submits malicious input to the affected software. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to read arbitrary kernel memory on the system, which could be used to conduct additional attacks.
Kernel.org has confirmed the vulnerability and released software updates.
