Apache Karaf sshd Service Unauthorized Access Vulnerability [CVE-2018-11786]

CVE Number – CVE-2018-11786

• A vulnerability in the sshd service in Apache Karaf could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to gain unauthorized access to a targeted system.

  The vulnerability is due to improper security restrictions imposed by the affected software when the sshd service is used. An attacker who has Secure Shell (SSH) access to the Karaf console on an affected system could exploit this vulnerability to access or modify any file on the file system that the Karaf process user has access to. A successful exploit could be used to conduct further attacks.

  Apache confirmed the vulnerability and released software updates.

• To exploit this vulnerability, the attacker must have user-level access to the targeted system. This access requirement may reduce the likelihood of a successful exploit.
