Donald Trump Thinks Google Is Rigged Against Him

Donald Trump claims that social media companies are ‘trying to silence conservatives,’ but he has said he doesn’t want additional regulation.

The president launched an attack on Google after apparently seeing a chart on a conservative news site that claimed to portray news outlets’ biases. The article containing the chart was headlined ’96 Percent of Google Search Results for “Trump” News Are from Liberal Media Outlets.’

He claimed in the tweets that the search engine giant is ‘suppressing’ the voices of conservatives and ‘hiding information and news that is good.’ He hinted that his administration was considering official action.

The original data appears to come from an article on PJ Media, which describes itself as “a leading news site covering culture, politics, faith, homeland security, and more”. The piece, by PJ Media supervising editor Paula Bolyard, suggests “Google is manipulating its algorithm to prioritize news outlets in their coverage of President Trump”.

“We continually work to improve Google Search and we never rank search results to manipulate political sentiment. Search is not used to set a political agenda and we don’t bias our results toward any political ideology,” a Google spokesperson is quoted as saying to CNN.
