BBC And ITV Request To Broadcast The World Cup 2018

Ofcom has received requests from the BBC and ITV for consent to broadcast exclusive live coverage of the FIFA World Cup 2018.

The World Cup is a listed event, which means Ofcom’s consent is needed for exclusive live coverage. It takes place in Russia from 14 June to 15 July 2018.

Subject to agreement, television coverage of the World Cup will be shared between ITV and the BBC. All matches broadcast by the BBC will be shown on either BBC One or BBC Two, or their interactive streams, or on BBC Four. The BBC also has national live radio rights for all matches.

ITV will show matches on its main channel and on ITV4.

Full details of the consultation are available.
